iPaq hx2750 and "Unrecognized Card" error starting WiFi

Postby pejacoby » Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:42 pm

After returning from Tokyo, my hx2750 is now putting up the error "Unrecognized card" whenever I turn on the WiFi.

There seem to be MANY threads on HP's support boards about this problem with pretty much every model of iPaq. Few end with solutions.

Has anyone hit this issue before and solved it? I tried re-updating the Firmware this morning, but that didn't help. After hitting "Cancel" on the error dialog, the iPaq Wireless app shows "Driver Not Loaded" for the WiFi interface.

I have a bad feeling that one of the airport Xray machines took out the wifi card...which would suck, since this iPaq is only a year old...

Hi

I have been told that the bluetooth and WiFi use an internal USB type connector, if you don't mind opening it up, just check if all the internal connection cables are securer.

That's my current challenge...finding the right screwdrivers to get the thing open. Curse HP for using three different size screws, all tinier than the next!

Home Depot to the rescue! I picked up a torx set with a T-4, and a jeweler's set with the #0 phillips and 1/16 straight screwdriver.

Poppped everything open, disconnected all the cables, reseated everything snuggly (after making note of the part number on the Samsung WiFi card), and put it back together enough to power up...and it still doesn't work.

Fudge...that's annoying. I'm going to hunt a bit for the wifi card, but may start pondering a new or used replacement. eBay has lots of iPaqs...I don't think I'll pay for a 2700 series this time, as I never used the fingerprint reader... Any thoughts on the 4700 series versus the 249x series?

Hi

I have only had experience with the h5550, i use the fingerprint scanner just to lock it, don't know why, there is nothing on it.

When looking it would need GPS or Bluetooth, and WiFi, but also look at the dock connector, the 1 on the H5550 is such a pain and very easy to bend a pin in it, see if you can get one with USB only dock.

It looks like the new iPaq 111 Classic has USB connectors for ActiveSync and charging, as well as a b/g radio. Comes with Windows Mobile 6, which might be interesting too. I may just go for one of these, if I can confirm WFFF runs happily on it.

I was thinking of taking my SD card with to a local store and trying it out.

I picked up an iPaq 111 and am currently in 'get the damn thing stable' mode. It has not been a joyous new-device experience so far...new Marvell processor and Marvell WLAN chipset are at least part of the fun, it appears.

It appears that WFFF has some issues with the Channel reporting on this device (and the iPaq 210) based on a thread over on aspecto-software.com. indiekiduk is going to look into it when he's back from traveling.

Navizon seems to be getting a bit more stable after tweaking some settings, but it still abruptly crashes more often than I'd like.

Other than my favorite apps being troublesome, it is a pretty nice unit. Windows Mobile 6 Classic seems to be very memory hungry as compared to WM2003SE, and I miss the ability to map storage memory into application memory as needed. I imagine there are various new widgets and utilities I need to lay my hands on as I explore the new setup!
